Psalm 108:4
Psalm 108:4 – (01/05/2018) 4 For
great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to
the skies.
The
108th Psalm is a great encouragement to me and in particular verse 4. Without
God’s great love, I would be doomed. I am a sinner, I am a wretched man, the
worst of sinners. A sinner saved by God’s love by His grace alone. I am empty
and void without Jesus and without being filled by His Love through His Holy
Spirit. Jesus is everything and I am nothing, except for what He makes of me in
His love.
A
love that is higher than the heavens, an endless love, an eternal love, a
relentless love. If God’s love could be measured than at some point it would
run out and I would be under His wrath and His judgement again. God’s great
love, shown to me in Jesus, is higher than the heavens. Is it endless, it is without
measure…will it end at some point? I have to say no. God, who from all eternity
organized this plan of love and this plan of salvation will never end His love
for us. The plan would fail if God could not complete the good work that He
started. The good work He started in me. However, we know that His who began a
good work in each of His saints will be faithful to complete His work.
Is
the sin in me, the sin of Adam, of Adam’s race, measurable? Only God can judge
the sins of un-love, the faithlessness, the evil that has trespassed against
Him. Only God can forgive it and it is only Jesus who can take the justice, the
wrath, the death, the punishment I deserve. I fail, I fall, I sin, I am unfaithful,
but You, God, are faithful. Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. If we are
faithless, He remains faithful, for Jesus cannot disown himself, Paul writes in
2 Timothy 2:13.
Application:
at the points I fail I will cry out for help. These include my evil sinful
thoughts and actions. I will not brush these things under the carpet, I will
not excuse it. I will confess it to Jesus, I will repent, I will turn from it
and turn to Jesus. At the foot of the cross I will knee and I will seek Jesus.
Jesus’s great love and faithfulness is what I will rely on, and I have nothing
else. When I fail to do the above I will go to Jesus.
